The top social class pyramid describes the Roman social class before Plebeians had rights. However the Plebeians went on strike in 484 B.C. They boycotted serving in the military (in which they made up all the foot soldiers) and even tried to start their own city state. The Romans feared this could danger the Patricians because they'd have no one to do the hard stuff. So they agreed to give Plebeians and Patricians equal rights, legalized their inter-marriage, allowed them to vote and gave them the council of Plebs which could voice its opinion in government through their one tribune, or representative.
