This page is about achievements of Africa during the middle ages. There are eight images in the slideshow however to summarize I will describe three achievements and their effects.
Time Keeping
The Egyptians created the sundial which was essentially a base for the modern day clock. The sundial was almost identical to our clock today except for the fact that instead of clock hand they used a shadow of diagonal rod coming from the center of the sundial. Also another major difference is that the sundial only uses one shadow as opposed to two hands. They also divided the year into twelve part sections like our months and they divided the year into 365 and one fourth day long year just like us.
Tools and Weapons
The ancient Africans crafted many new and extremely useful tools. One of their most important was nails, which are literally used on almost every single architectural structure. They also made steam engines, which were revolutionary in the 1800s, however the eygptians did not make such grand and useful steam engines. These two things were among many more like: metal chisels used for sculpting, saws for building, copper now used for electricity, iron used for stronger weapons and tools, steel used for even stronger weapons and tools, glue for building and crafting, and bronze used for weapons.
Astronomy
The Dogon's knowledge of the solar system has allowed for for great space adventures and lots of learning and understanding of the outer space world around our Earth. They wrote about orbits, Saturn's rings, Jupiter's rings, and primary stars such as Sirus A and B. These have allowed for jobs and tons of knowledge.
